Thanks Nicole — I appreciate you reading and commenting. Certainly don’t want to distract from the content due to gender pronouns. It’s tricky, because I want readers to “see” people when they read the examples (I’ve struggled with this in other writing as well, by the way). I thought alternating between “he” and “she” was a reasonable compromise, but not if it’s distracting. Personally, when I read “they”, or “he/she”, it just isn’t as personal. Maybe it’s something I just need to get over and accept. I like to think of myself as progressive despite living in a deeply conservative part of the US… so that’s probably the right thing to do.
