’Twas the Midst of a Pandemic
’Twas the midst of a pandemic
Many working from home
On lockdown so long
Even I needed a comb
The boys were eLearning
Nestled up with their screens
Wife and I were so thankful
Not all three were teens
Conspiracy theories
Consuming our souls
As Facebook friends
Did the work of Russian trolls
Cooped up for so long
All getting neurotic
Thank God for wifi
And of course, Joe Exotic
But in the middle of it all
We learned to slow down
And to make each meal stretch
With no meat to be found
When it finally ended
We’d learned a thing or two
About human connection
Thanks to what we’d been through
We stopped seeing everything
As a reason to hate
Doctors, nurses, and teachers
We began to appreciate
