Wajeeh Khan thanks for reading and commenting! Great question. My experience has been that most publications now want to see a sample of your work before adding you as a contributor. For example, with the clients I work with, I encourage them to get 2–3 articles self-published before asking to be added to a publication as a contributor. I think this is a good practice.

Also, the publications I mentioned as being very new writer friendly aren’t so much anymore (the article was written in 2018). Publishous and The Ascent now want to see a decent amount of work before they’ll add you. From my experience, the most new writer friendly publications out there now are Illumination, Change Your Mind Change Your Life, and Live Your Life On Purpose.

Feel free to reach out anytime — chris@writing-coaching.com with questions.

The key to overcoming impostor syndrome (I think) is to just publish. Medium is a very supportive platform.

Good luck!
